The European Coordination Committee on Veterinary Training (ECCVT) approved the Final
Report of the ECCVT Working Group on Digital Technologies and Artificial Intelligence
(DT&AI WG) on 28 September 2020. The purpose of the DT&AI WG is to reflect on the
opportunities, risks and overall impact of digital technologies and artificial intelligence in
veterinary education and veterinary practice.

DT&AI is becoming increasingly prevalent in veterinary medicine and has the potential to
revolutionize some facets of the veterinary profession, provided that it is harnessed in a safe,
legal and ethical way. It is crucial that AI is used as a tool, rather than a replacement, to boost
veterinary education and practice, and those veterinarians who know how to adequately use AI
will be in an advantageous position in the future.

Currently, many veterinary teachers and stakeholders are not aware about the potentialities of
DT&AI in veterinary education and practice, many study programmes do not incorporate it in
their content and there is little data when it comes to validating its implementation in the
veterinary world.
